PROS

  • The people are very friendly, there's a great atmosphere in the pubs, and the country is beautiful.
  • Bandon is a very quiet town with very nice people.
  • Great job and stay.

CONS

  • The weather: at least from January to April, it's cold and rains frequently.
  • Bandon and Youghal are small towns with not much to see, so you'll need transportation to get around.
  • The food.

REGARDING ACCOMMODATION...

"In my case, I stayed with a family, a super-friendly older man who helped me with everything."

"I stayed with a family, a very nice lady."

"The accommodation was fine, although it was cold from time to time. Otherwise, everything was perfect. I was delighted with the lady at the accommodation, who was always willing to help and very friendly."

"The lady of the house was great, but the room was a bit small."

"Youghal (Cork): The family was nice, but the hosting organization and the family, even though they had self-catering, kept insisting that I pay for the food, and in the end I ended up paying, and the food was pretty bad. The house in general was a bit dirty and messy."

A GOOD PLACE TO EAT / HAVE A DRINK...

  • In Bandon, where I've been, there are two very cool pubs: O'Haras and Little Nora's. For a good pizza, I recommend Apache Pizza.
  • Also in Bandon, another good place to eat is Bayleaf Bistro and Cracked Bistro is another good place to have a drink.
  • Lennox.
  • There's a pretty good cafe in the center of Youghal, and for a beer or a bit of partying, I recommend Hennesy and JD's, two pubs located in the clock tower that are quite good. JD's has live music on Saturdays.

TIPS IF YOU'RE GOING TO CORK

  • Keep calm; if any problems arise, they'll be resolved. A classmate of yours tells us what happened: "In my case, my suitcase was lost, and I spent the first two days of my Erasmus stay in the clothes I was wearing. I had to file a claim at the airport, call the insurance company I'd taken out through the Department of Education, and the owner of the house where I was staying lent me pajamas, so I had to buy a couple of T-shirts and leggings. It wasn't pleasant at all, since starting your Erasmus without your things, in a strange family and house, and not knowing if I'd ever find them, isn't what I expected. However, two days later they sent me my suitcase. Everything from then on was great, and now the lost suitcase is just an anecdote to tell my friends."
  • Be kind; you'll accomplish so much more.
  • Make the most of every moment and go out and see as much as you can!
  • Don't have high expectations about the area, and if you're unhappy with something, let them know until it's resolved.
  • Meet people
